At Open Nature, we are committed to ensuring that our digital platforms are accessible to everyone, regardless of ability or technology. Our goal is to create an inclusive experience that allows all users to explore, understand, and act on biodiversity data without barriers.
Standards and Guidelines
Introduction
Open Nature strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines define best practices for designing and developing accessible digital content.
Measures to Support Accessibility
To ensure ongoing accessibility, we have:
- Designed and built our site with semantic, standards-compliant HTML.
- Used ARIA roles and accessible names for interactive elements.
- Ensured sufficient color contrast and scalable text.
- Enabled keyboard navigation for key site functions.
- Tested the platform using automated tools and manual reviews.
Ongoing Improvements
Accessibility is a continuous process. We regularly review our website and tools to identify and fix accessibility issues as technology and standards evolve. We aim to make all new features accessible by design.
Known Limitations
While we work to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards across all content, some third-party components or embedded data visualizations may not yet fully comply. We are collaborating with our partners to address these limitations.
